Randy German
Bio: Randy German has been in a leadership role in the Blood Bank since 1991 and currently works at Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach, CA, a 600 two campus community hospital system. In 2013, German took on the additional role of overseeing quality and compliance for the entire Laboratory. He began his career as a Laboratory Specialist in the United States Air Force, obtained his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and did graduate work leading to a Specialist in Blood Banking certification from Barnes Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of the Blood for Missions and OTIS Technical Advisory Boards and the California Blood Bank Society Scientific Committee.
German has experience in all aspects of Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine having worked at both Blood Donor Centers and large volume Transfusion Services. His academic interests include hemolytic anemia and massive transfusion. He has seven publications and is a frequent speaker at various professional gatherings. In 2011, he lead the development of the Code RBC massive transfusion protocol at Hoag. In his spare time, he enjoys camping and cycling and does volunteer work with foster children.
