Gary V. Catarella
Bio: Gary Catarella is the Assistant Vice President, Hospital Operations for the Atrium Health Laboratory Network. As such, he’s responsible for leading all aspects of laboratory services for eleven acute care hospitals and seven health pavilions. He has achieved a Tier 1 engagement assessment, redesigned three acute-care laboratories using lean methodologies, and created an equipment standardization strategic plan, plus activity plans at four acute-care locations. Catarella’s expertise is integrating and optimizing laboratory services for hospital systems, standardizing equipment and methods, laboratory automation, and developing hospital-based outreach programs.Before joining Atrium, he was the Corporate Director, Laboratory Services for Meridian Health in New Jersey. There, he implemented a core lab operating model, expanded core lab services, and implemented a laboratory outreach program. The delivery model for laboratory service at Meridian Health consists of a core laboratory and five immediate response labs. The core laboratory provides the full spectrum of services and completes over two million procedures annually. The immediate response laboratories complete an estimated one and a half million procedures combined.Prior to joining Meridian Health, as Vice President of Laboratory Services for the Catholic Health System in Buffalo, NY, he led the development and execution of the integrated laboratory system for a five-hospital system.He has a master’s degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Buffalo, a Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology from the State University of New York at Fredonia, and is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
