Bio: Cynthia Mansfield, BS MT (ASCP) is currently the Associate Director Compliance & Operations at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). She graduated from University of Massachusetts, Lowell with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology and began her professional career at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a 300-bed community hospital outside of Boston. Her first job was working on the evening shift rotating through all areas of the clinical lab. The following year, she began working on the day shift in the chemistry lab and then as a supervisor for the lab. While raising her preschool-aged children she worked part time as a generalist, evenings.

She developed an interest in point-of-care testing after attending educational and career development conferences. Working for the same community hospital at the time the first regulatory checklist was initiated for point of care testing, Mansfield was asked to develop the point-of-care testing program for the laboratory. She kept point-of-care under her wing as she became the Quality, Compliance and Point-of-Care Testing Manager. In May of 2009, she moved to MGH into her current role which includes responsibility for regulatory compliance for the pathology service and manages department-wide projects and initiatives. In addition, she provides regulatory and consultative services for the MGH affiliate laboratories. Outside her work at MGH, she is actively contributing to several Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
