Christina Saum
Bio: Christy Saum has been working in the Microbiology department at Bryan Medical Center for 21 years. The last 5 years have been as the Microbiology Specialist. She has implemented new technology including: automated Gram stainer, Nanosphere Verigene- for the rapid identification of organisms in positive blood cultures, collaborated with physicians to bring in a fecal transplant program, MALDI-TOF, Vitek 2, and most recently the Biofire for Respiratory pathogens and early detection of meninigitis in CSF specimens.
Christy is also a member of many teams outside of the laboratory including the Antimicrobial Stewardship Team, the Infection Prevention Team, the CAUTI Prevention Team, and the Sepsis Team. Her involvement in these committees has given the laboratory a voice in changes to hospital processes. Christy has presented at both Local and Regional ASCP and CLMA meetings. In 2014 she earned the ASCP regional member award for the North Central Region. In 2015 she was recognized by her Alma mater as the Distinguished Alumunus.
